The GUGB journey so far…
LAST YEAR’S CHALLENGE
2023 - "Hike Against Hunger" - Mind, Body and Soul!

In April 2022, before the price rises, it was estimated that 5.3 million people had to choose between eating and heating. Food bank usage has risen by nearly 100% since 2007.

To combat the issue of food poverty in the UK, GUGB 2023 is supporting three splendid charities, in mental, physical and commitment challenges:

Magic Breakfast is a national organisation that has been running for over two decades and provides schools with up to 200,000 breakfasts a day. Their mission is simple; child hunger should never be a barrier to education.

The Tri Services Veterans Support Centre is a Stoke-based unit run by veterans, for veterans. They provide camaraderie, signposting and support along with 60,000 meals for veterans. They also "stood to", distributing 250,000 meals to the local community during the pandemic.

The Trussell Trust supports a nationwide network of 1,200 food banks. They provide emergency food and support to people locked in poverty, and campaign for change to end the need for food banks in the UK.

2022 Mental Health Matters - The 150,000,000 step challenge!

1 in 4 people in England alone will experience a mental health challenge of some kind every year, these challenges affect men, women, young people and children. In 2022 we partnered with StrongMen and The Lucy Rayner Foundation and raised £165,774 to support the incredible services these charities work tirelessly to provide.

StrongMen and The Lucy Rayner Foundation provide life-changing and life-saving support in that critical moment of need to men and young people, we supported The Lucy Rayner Foundation to continue offering IMMEDIATE face-to-face counselling sessions for young people and TWELVE months of weekender retreats organised by StrongMen.

This year, we continued our partnership with Buses 4 Homeless and we have successfully raised over £100,000 which will go to making a bigger dent in homelessness in the UK. Find out more about this massive achievement in our most recent Press Release.

Even before COVID, homelessness has been a growing issue in the UK and it’s a very complex topic that is close to our hearts.

Buses 4 Homeless have a very unique and bespoke end to end solution. They provide accommodation, training and support from their unique yet established rehabilitation centre.
2020 Buses 4 Homeless – Raise the Roof

In 2020, we partnered with Buses 4 Homeless as we wanted to make a dent in the growing issue of homelessness around the UK however regrettably our events were cancelled due to Covid-19 and as such we were unable to complete our run.

Buses 4 Homeless is a low-cost holistic solution to this growing issue. By refurbishing decommissioned buses into purpose-built end to end facilities for Eating, Sleeping, Wellbeing and Learning we intend to make a dent in this growing issue by re-engaging homeless people back into the community.
2019 Operation Smile – Smile 365

In 2019, we partnered with Operation Smile and broke the world record for the largest single donation ever given at over £75,000 funding life-changing operations for over 500 children and young adults born with facial deformities in third world countries.
